Hong Kong

It was the beautiful shining buildings
It was the gleam, the money, the cool

It was the old lady so determined to get somewhere before me,
using all of her miniature might to do so,
even though there was more than enough somewhere for everyone

It was the little girl in the Minnie Mouse ears that made my day
in a place where I couldn’t fit

It was the colours, the birds, the flowers, the simple things
that young boys and old men treasured above everything around

It was the bars, the neon, the lychee bellini and
the waves of rich sauces that made your mouth water

It was the boats, all the boats and the lights at night
It was all shimmer, and some dirt, and the juxtaposition of money and none

Hong Kong
