Buenos Aires

A community of colours
From ships long since sailed
Alleyways of mystery
Humanity and history

Beautiful buildings
Against blinding blue skies
Bridges and boats
Keeping commerce afloat

A musical interlude
To suit the dark, sultry mood
La Bomba de Tiempo
Pulls everyone to the floor
And then in the early hours
Some will tango till they’re sore

Trees and street lights
Alongside churches and tanks
Flurries of flags
Alongside spaces of tranquility
And sudden bursts of colour
Where they really shouldn’t be

Sculptures of military and mothers
Of the heavenly, the earth-bound and others
An abundance of tributes to beloveds gone by
As the angels watch over a whole nation’s pride
